Since June of 2000, he has been involved with professional displays through Pyro Spectaculars, one of the most respected fireworks display companies in the world. His advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering, experience with rocketry, and passion for fireworks give him insight to all the workings of the world of pyrotechnics.
Mike has done work for two different episodes of Discovery Channel's "Mythbusters." In 2004, Mike played a big part in the episode titled "Ming-Dynasty Astronaut," where he designed and built the electrical firing system to simultaneously ignite 47 high power rocket engines. He also took part in the design and fabrication of the rocket engines in the weeks prior to the actual shoot.
In 2010, Mike worked as a consultant on the Mythbusters episode titled "Fireworks Man," giving detailed technical guidance on how to physically achieve what they were trying to do with the pyrotechnics related myth.
In season 3 episode 7 of Spike TV's "Auction Hunters", which aired in 2012, Mike was the on-camera "fireworks expert" going over items that the show's hosts, Ton Jones and Allen Haff, found in a storage unit.
Mike has also done an on camera interview as the "pyrotechnic expert" on The Learning Channel (TLC) for a show titled, "99 Most Bizarre - Self Inflicted Injuries".
